Head an hour west of Havana to see the natural beauty of Cuba. Here you will find natural river pools, art studios, and coffee plantation ruins, which make up a unique ecotourism community. Las Terrazas, is a small town located in the heart of Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve on the Guaniguanico mountain rage. Upon arrival, stop at Rancho Curujey, located at the entrance of the nature reserve, where you will meet your local guide and receive an overview of the area. Your journey in Las Terrazas will begin with a visit to the partially restored ruins of the Buenavista Coffee Plantation. It was built in 1801 by French refugees from Haiti, and to this day you can see the house of the original owner and the slaves’ quarters. Next, visit Café de Maria and enjoy a coffee tasting with Maria’s family, while sharing a conversation about their life in this rural community. Las Terrazas is also known to be home to several well-known Cuban artists, such as Lester Campa. Visit his personal workshop and see why his work has been exhibited internationally. Following lunch at a paladar, a privately owned restaurant, you can take a swim at Baños del San Juan. This section of the San Juan River is of particular beauty with a series of small waterfalls that cascade down to crystalline pools, all surrounded by lush vegetation. After, you will be returned to your pick up/drop off location.
