Just a few hours from Havana, Viñales Valley is truly a unique site. Viñales is the perfect combination of natural beauty and traditional Cuban culture. It is best known for its tobacco farms, languid lifestyle, and the distinctive limestone hills of Valle de Viñales. This is one of Cuba’s most fertile areas and where some of the world’s best tobacco is grown, harvested, dried, and processed. Before arriving to Vinales, visit the Francisco Donatien Cigar Factory at Pinar del Río city (closed on weekends) to watch the fascinating tradition of Cuban cigar rolling. Next, stop at Hotel Los Jazmines to get an amazing view of Viñales Valley spread out in front of you. Here you will also be able to visit a small craft market, were you will have the opportunity to interact with self-employed Cuban individuals known as cuentapropistas. Continue with a visit Benito’s farm and meet Benito, a 5th generation tobacco farmer. Indulge in a true farm to table lunch experience at one of the local farm houses. Take this opportunity to experience the entrepreneurial endeavors of the Cuban people. View the giant mural, Viñales Mural de la Prehistoria, by Leovigildo González Morillo. The mural is an enormous project that portrays the world history of evolution up to the age of humans on a rock wall within Viñales Valley.
